On June 8th, 4 vans from the Etobicoke region filled with 24 excited sports fans headed to Detroit. This was their 16th annual trip to meet up with Michael Ward (who is playfully referred to as “The Trip Guy”), and his wife, Deb, to see a baseball game.

Over the past 16 years, Michael has organized and funded this annual trip for people in service to see  hockey, football, basketball, and especially baseball games. This year everyone was proud to wear their new T-shirt’s that they got from Michael that said “All Star Group, Community Living Toronto” to the game. The group  also wore Marathon medals donated from “Medals for Mettles”.

Michael planned the 2-day trip that included the hotel accommodations and dinner at Uno’s Pizzeria!        Everyone ate as much pizza and pop as they wanted and then headed to Jimmy John’s Field in Utica to see the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers vs. the Westside Woolly Mammoths. (The Beavers beat the Mammoths 9 – 4.)

As a nice surprise this year, Michael had invited a few local Special Olympic Athletes to the game with us!

After the game we stayed in The Hyatt Place Hotel where Michael had set up rooms for everyone to stay the night. In the morning we enjoyed free breakfast at the Hyatt and headed to Target to do some shopping. This year everyone received a gift bag full of snacks put together by Target! If that wasn’t enough, there were even more free snacks and drinks for the drive home.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Michael Ward for putting this all together every year.
